Day Two: San Sebastian

Day two started by taking a bus trip through northern Spain to San Sebastian. San Sebastian lies in the Bay of Biscay on the Atlantic coast. After enjoying a chocolate croissant and fresh squeezed glass of orange juice, Josh and I set out on some sightseeing. This was mostly done in the city’s “La Parte Vieja” district which is its oldest district. It was a labyrinth of small streets that gave way to large churches. We saw the San Vicente and Santa Maria churches before making our way up San Sebastian’s Jesus- statue topped mountain that houses at 16th century fort. To be honest, the hike up was a bit strenuous at times, especially when we went off the marked path and found ourselves stuck in mud. However, the view it provided was beautiful. The day had cleared up and I got to see the ocean for the first time in over a month!
We walked down the mountain along Playa de La Concha, San Sebastian’s most famous beach. The sun was shining, the wind was blowing and the stroll on the board walk was picturesque. We had lunch at a restaurant right on the boardwalk. Sitting outside on the restaurant’s deck, we made our way through a delicious meal and bottle of wine. The weather was nice enough that we didn’t realize two hours had passed.
We did have some issues with the hostel, as a large group of Frenchmen were possibly arriving the same night. Luckily Josh’s Spanish has improved, so he convinced the hostel owner to move us to another hostel. It turned out to be a great move, as the hostel was in the heart of La Parte Vieja. Our room even had a perfect window overlooking the street!
We ended the night with a late dinner and stroll around San Sebastian.
